I'm a natural light portrait photographer for personal brands and young adults based out of New England. I capture joyful images for people who love bright photos with pops of color, and I draw most of my inspiration from the beach.
Having your senior portraits taken is one of the best ways to kick off your senior year. Having a day that’s all about you, where you get to dress up, look your best, and get great images of yourself…. what could be better? You’ll walk away with some fire new content for your IG, and your parents will have portraits of you and the fam to adorn the walls of your home for years to come!
With that, of course, comes all of the fun planning involved!! From finding your photographer, to thinking about where you’ll want your session, to deciding if you’ll opt for professional hair and makeup, there’s so many fun things to think about for your senior session! Some of the most frequently asked questions I get from my seniors are along the lines of “what should I wear?!”
And it makes sense!! These photos are a once-in-a-lifetime chance to capture this moment in your life and celebrate everything you’ve accomplished to get to this point, as well as all of the fun things in store for your senior year! Beyond that, these portraits will be beloved by your parents, family, and loved ones even after you graduate from high school.
To help, I’ve compiled this blog post to share some of my favorite outfit recommendations and things to keep in mind when planning your outfits for your senior session! All of these tips and suggestions are part of how I consistently create my signature style of bright, vibrant, and beachy images– it all works together to create the gorgeous final product!
When in doubt, I always recommend a flowy dress, skirt, or jumpsuit for my seniors to wear for one of their outfits. These look SO good in a beachy breeze, and they also provide lots of great options for posing– you can hold in, flutter it, the options are endless! These create such a timeless feel that I absolutely love, and they help give the image an overall dressed-up feel!
If you’re opting for a dress, I always recommend choosing one with soft pastel or neutral colors, so that it doesn’t distract from the star of the show: YOU! Patterns, florals, and other prints tend to become distracting on camera and take away from how gorgeous you look! If you really love florals, I recommend looking for ones with smaller prints to be less distracting!
If you’ll have time to have a second (or third) outfit for your session, this is a great chance to wear something more casual! This can especially be good to get more variety in posing with some more sitting poses (not that it’s impossible to sit in a dress, it’s just generally a little trickier…).
A cute blouse & skinny jeans with sandals is a fantastic go-to for your second outfit and looks super cute!
